No…this photo isn’t from today’s encounter. We were too excited to get our cameras in time to get a good photo!
We wanted you to be the first to know that today guests on our Snorkel Adventure Cruise aboard Seasmoke got to see the very first Humpback Whales of our 2015/2016 season!
Captain Ryan Stevenson reports seeing spouts from two sub-adult Humpbacks just about 1/2 mile offshore of Anaeho’omalu Bay around noon.
As our guests and crew watched in amazement, he said that one of the whales did a mini-breach. We’re not sure if this whale was announcing excitement or trying to express domination, but right after the breach, both whales did a couple of peduncle throws before spouting a few more times, and then sounding and leaving the area.
October 30th is fairly early for Humpbacks to visit the Kohala Coast, so we’re thinking this bodes well for our upcoming Whale Watch Season.
We won’t be running dedicated Whale Watch Cruises until December 1st, but until then, join us on any of our Snorkel Adventure Cruises or Sunset Cruises and help us search for more early arrivers!
Call us at (808)886-6666 ext. 103 today to join in on the search!
