Peduncle Slash
Captain Jeff Baker reports seeing the lone humpback at the surface, slashing his peduncle, and creating a big splash. Though none of our guests were looking the right way to see the whale, our crew member extraordinaire Pono’i saw it too just north of Kawaihae harbor.
This “first of the season” sighting comes about a month after our previous year’s “first sightings”. Since we’ve long known that “whales do what whales do”, we don’t assign any particular meaning to the date of this sighting in terms of the number of Humpbacks who will visit Hawaii this season.
We’re excited…our first dedicated Whale Watch Cruises begin December 1st…but in the meantime, join us on any of our Snorkel Adventure Cruises or Cocktails at Sunset Cruises, and help us scour the coastline to welcome more of our migrating Humpback friends!
