We’re really excited to announce that today, Wednesday, October 16th, guests aboard our Snorkel Adventure Cruise on Alala got to see the very first Humpback Whale of our 2019/2020 season!
This morning, Captain Sam Stevenson reports that he saw 3 spouts and a tail from a lone, kind-of-small Humpback about 2 miles offshore of the Mauna Kea Beach Resort. After the whale sounded, everyone aboard began scanning in all directions for this whale to surface again. Eventually, we saw his spout one more time a bit further to our north before he slipped under the surface and continued on his way.
Though Humpbacks have already been spotted a couple of weeks ago offshore of Kauai and Maui, October 16th is fairly early for Humpbacks to visit the Kohala Coast…and we’re thinking this bodes well for our upcoming Whale Watch Season!
We won’t be running dedicated Whale Watch Cruises until December 1st, but until then, join us on any of our Snorkel Adventure Cruises or Sunset Cruises and help us search for more early arrivers!First
Call us at (808)886-6666 ext. 1 today to join in on the search!
Oh…and congratulations to James W. who entered our annual “First Sighting” contest and correctly predicted today’s date for our first Humpback of the season! For guessing the exact date of this first sighting from one of our boats, James wins a Gift Certificate redeemable for a Whale Watch Cruise of his choice. Mahalo to everyone who entered…and we hope you’ll all get a chance to see LOTS of Humpbacks this upcoming season!
P.S. If you can’t join us aboard, we’ll do our best to keep you up-to-date with all the Humpback action. Stay tuned for our weekday Whale Reports beginning in December! You can also have the reports delivered directly to your inbox..subscribe here today.
