Aloha,
Many of you have been asking us whether the Humpback whales have been affected by the absence of whale watchers off the Kohala Coast since the COVID-19 containment measures have gone into effect. Of course, because we haven’t been allowed to operate commercially since March 21st, we don’t have a lot of data to share with you.
Today however, our Director of Boating Operations Captain Will, his wife Alisa, our company owner Judi, and her brother Andy, took the opportunity to do some maintenance on Seasmoke. And while they were out at sea, this is just some of what they saw.
We really miss seeing the whales, and it’s possible they miss us too.
Check out this image of a whale waving to us today (ok…we know…this pec-slapping Humpback is most likely directing his or her energies at another whale…but we’d like to think they were sending us a big “Aloha”).
As always, we appreciated getting to share these experiences with the Humpbacks at the end of their stay here in Hawaii…and we look forward to getting back on the water and sharing these moments with you too.
Stay safe and stay healthy!
Mahalo,
Claire (and the Ocean Sports ‘Ohana)
