Are you joining us on a boat cruise departing from Kawaihae Harbor? Check in with us at our Kawaihae Whale Center before your cruise.
Once inside, take a look at the breathtaking photos of the Humpback Whales captured by award-winning photographer Michael S. Nolan and learn about Humpback behaviors from our museum-quality interpretative placards.
Our Whale Center is also the perfect place to shop for t-shirts, snorkel gear, and even those last minute island souvenirs for your friends and family (or for yourself — we won’t tell).
Ask our friendly crew about our award-winning Snorkel Cruises, Sunset Cocktail Cruises, Whale Watch Cruises or our other activities. We can can help you choose the adventure of your dreams!
From the Kona International Airport, turn left on Highway 19. Stay on the Highway as you go past the entrances to the Hualalai Resort, the Waikoloa Beach Resort, the Mauna Lani Resort, the Hapuna Prince Hotel, and the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel (this takes about 40 minutes).
Eventually, you’ll come to a T-intersection with a stop sign. Turn left (towards Kawaihae), on Highway 270. Stay on the road for about 1.5 miles (you’ll go around a curve and down a hill past the entrance to the harbor). As the road “Y-intersects”, you’ll see our Whale Center on the right. We’re at the corner of Hwy 270 and Akoni Pule Hwy (right below the 76 Gas Station).
You can park in our small lot, or across the road from the building along the green fence.
If you get lost, please give us a call at (808) 886-6666 (any extension) and we’ll be happy to help you find your way!
