The Biggest News of All!

We just saw our FIRST Humpbacks of the Season!
Spouting HumpbackWe wanted you to be the first to know that we just saw our first Humpbacks of the 2024/2025 Whale Watch Season!

Today, at 9:06 AM, our multitasking crewmember and Beach Hut staff person Scott W. reported seeing 3 big spouts followed by a very small fluke from the spouter’s companion offshore of our beach hut at Anaeho’omalu Bay. The sighting was a brief one, but the whales appeared to be heading south. Was Scott getting a glimpse of Momma Humpback and her newborn calf? Scott wasn’t completely sure, as the whales he spotted were a way’s from the shoreline, but knowing what we know about Humpbacks, it’s entirely possible.

Now to be honest, today’s Humpbacks weren’t the first Humpbacks reported to be in Hawaiian waters this season (that happened off the coast of Maui on October 6th) or even the first Humpback spotted off of our coastline this season, but today marks OUR first Humpback sighting of the season, and that makes us very excited.

While we won’t be operating our dedicated Guaranteed Whale Watch Cruises until December 15th, until then, we hope you can join us in scouring the ocean for more early-arriving Humpbacks during every Snorkel Adventure Cruise, Pau Hana Sunset Cruise, and Glass Bottom Boat Cruise and help us watch for spouts and splashes from the shoreline at Anaeho’omalu Bay too!

And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for…the winner of this year’s “First Humpback Sighting of the Season” contest is Annette B, who predicted our first sighting almost to the minute (she guessed the first sighting to be 11/16 at 9:15 AM). For winning the contest, we’ve issued a Gift Certificate to Annette redeemable for one seat on any of our Guaranteed Morning Whale Watch Cruises. This season, those cruises will be available with 8:00 and 10:30 departure times on most Mondays and Thursdays from the beach at Anaeho’omalu Bay, and on most Tuesdays and Saturdays from the dock at Kawaihae Harbor.
